Project Management Process

The Apropro Process

The client had recently moved from having a preferred contractor agreement to a more flexible client managed project process. They required a process that provided control over the definition of the project, but also ensured early appreciation of safety aspects and site implementation, and better engagement of users from Operations. A management process, from project inception to handover and sign off, was devised covering the activities of all stakeholders. Succinct, detailed procedures for each part of the process were developed with the people required to follow them. These were then implemented internally and with external providers.

Manufacturing and Supply Chain Development

The client is a global provider of healthcare products who undertook a major restructuring of their manufacturing supply chain. This included the creation of a new facility and manufacturing organisation in China and the closure of facilities in the West. Support was provided throughout the venture from concept development through to commissioning of the new assets. Our scope of services ranged from project cost benchmarking to organisational development for the new facility. The project was delivered on time and budget with no disruption of customer service (a key success criteria)

Shutdown process and reviews

For this client the execution of the yearly shutdowns within the defined timescale was imperative. They required a process of preparation and reviews that ensured that all parties were fully aligned with the objectives and working to a common timescale. A combination of facilitated shutdown readiness reviews and the generation of a process that is refreshed yearly, provides a means to ensure that all interfaces are in place and working well, specific risks and engineering issues are identified and addressed, and that enough time is available to determine safe and economic delivery.

Integrated Project Training Programme

This client’s primary objective was to improve the value generated and the certainty of delivery of their projects. There was also an underlying objective to deliver a change to the organisation’s culture by developing a more project-based approach. We worked with the Board and Senior Managers to develop a training programme that could be applied globally across all the business functions. A particularly successful feature was the incorporation of real time projects into the training courses, which generated additional benefit for the business. The creation of a common understanding of project process and language has exceeded the organisation’s original goals.
